Donations Tax Refund

Did you know … “You can claim up to 33.33 cents for every dollar you donated to charities or similar organisations.”, and this applies to Al-Ameen Islamic Development NZ, as Al-Ameen is registered as a Charitable Trust and is considered by the IRD as a donee organisation — More information is provided by the IRD.

We highly recommend ALL donors to Al-Ameen to take advantage of this tax credit!

Steps to claim a refund

  1. Step1 - Request donation receipt
Get receipt from Al-Ameen from the past three years.
Request one from info@alameen.org.nz, include “Donation receipt request“ in the subject.

  2. Step 2A - Using MyIR (If you’re already registered)
Follow instructions here on IRD website.
    Or …

  3. Step 2B - Fill-out IRD form
Follow instructions on the Submit a donation receipt IRD page.
You may either use the myIR online portal, or submit the IR526 form manually — Click on the “Other ways to do this”, and you’ll find a download link for the form.

  4. Step 3 - Submit receipt and completed IRD form

Enclose both form and receipts to be sent to IRD and address is on the form.
Fill out a separate form for each year of receipts separately. For example, you may file up to four years donations, and you’ll receive refunds for all three years at once.

4 year limit

“You can submit a receipt for a donation at any time within 4 tax years of the date of the donation. Any credit you are due will apply to the tax year the donation was made, not the year you submitted the receipt.” — As explained by IRD
